Biofilm — the bacteria, algae, and fungi that coat surfaces in an
established tank — is one of the primary food sources for shrimp and
other invertebrates, not just an occasional snack. The problem is that
new tanks and isolation setups don’t have it yet, and it takes days to
build up on its own.
The Gyroid Biofilm Disc speeds that up. Its gyroid lattice structure is a triplyperiodic minimal surface — the wavy, tunnel-like pattern maximizes surface area in a small footprint, giving biofilm far more room to establish than a flat disc would. Drop it in ahead of time and let it seed before your shrimp or fry need it.
Note: the small pore size on this design makes it unsuitable for fish —
it’s built for shrimp and other invertebrates.
Details that matter:
- Gyroid lattice structure — maximizes surface area for biofilm
growth in a small footprint - Low-profile, easy to place — sits flat in your isolation box,
breeder tank, or grow-out setup - Printed in PETG — water-resistant and stable long-term in
aquarium use, unlike PLA
Specifications:
- Material PETG (aquarium-safe)
- Design: Gyroid infill lattice
- Dimensions: 30mm diameter × 5mm thick
- Bottom thickness: 3mm solid
- Best for: Shrimp and invertebrates — not
fish-safe (small pore size)
Care and Use:
- Rinse before first use
- Place in tank ahead of time (several days) to let biofilm establish
before fry or shrimp arrive - Hand wash only when cleaning between uses
